Since this came up, I'm starting a thread about it. Anything Breath of Fire, be it your favorite/least favorite game from the series, favorite characters, things you wanted to see, things you wish they hadn't done, things you liked/disliked about certain games/characters, etc.
I'll start.
My favorite game in the series was BOF 2, and my favorite character was Katt from said game.
I liked the dragon system from number 1, and the shamanization system from number 2.

Thank you ershin!
Ershin is my all time fav character. And while i liked two, i love 4. I like the whole two sides of the same coin aspect of the series and the looks of the dragons. And well the dragon system has its flaws. But i still love the game.

I never got a real chance to play 4, to be honest. I gotta say, though, as far as favorite characters of the whole series, though, Blue is a close second to Katt. Oddly enough, I haven't liked Nina in ANY of the games... In the first game, she was a support character who only functioned well as support, even with her best possible equipment, and she seemed a little spoiled. In the second, she was a black mage, but she quickly became eclipsed in usefulness if you found Blue as a secret character, and you could do that as soon as you got the whale. In the third, she was a spoiled princess trying to be an adventurer, and the only thing that redeemed her was she looked nice once she grew up. As I said, never really played four. And don't get me started on Dragon Quarter. THat one might as well not be Breath of Fire, with how different the game system was.

I havent gotten very far in 1. Two was legit, nina was ok... But yes after finding deis/bleu she became obsolete, except that nina had more hp i think. Idr also dr the whale, i got the bird? Thing. But then goblin thingys killed it later, or attacked it rather i guess. Havent played 3 tho it seems interesting. Havent played dq but heard it waa garbage. And as for four, im working on fou lou dying at moment. Spoiler he is last boss. Just not how youd think. End spoiler. Nina is useful, her wind spells make her a sutible attacker and she is the only major healer, scias has a few "healing" spells but they become useless later on as scias is an attacker and should save his little mp for combo spells and shining blade attacks. Once again though nina is made useless as an attacker by ershin. Except nina is actually good slightly above mediocre at physical attacks and ershin has low phy accur. Actually that gets remedied later on two, but nina gets kyrie which can oneshot, with a significantly lower hit rate than death or team death (forgot actual name.) did i mention the terrible hit rate? XD

In number two, you get the whale very early in the game, which lets you explore the world better. The bird comes later. Also, if when you come to the boss where the old man begs you to kill him and you don't, you discover he's Ryu's father and he comes back with you to the Township, which - if you examined the machine at the bottom of the well and talk to Eikichi in Gantz - can then fly, which negates the worry about the demons hunting the bird since the town flies. It also unlocks the best ending for the game.

Whale's part of the plot. Can't get the bird without the whale. You could get a GBA emulator and the rom.

Maybe i did get the whale? Lol idr i never had my town fly though. Idt i did that boss fight. Anyway, i played it on emu to start with. Haha no dying cheat ftw! Btw this cheat is still fair, because the way it works is, if the attack doesnt kill you your health regens to full. So if an enemy oneshots you it still oneshots you.

The boss with the old man and the machine is part of the major plot. THere's two ways to win, though. If the old man dies, the fight ends, but then you have to deal with killing your characters father. Otherwise you have to kill the three pods...which is actually pretty easy if you do it right.
